Kathmandu, day 1
Kathmandu: we just finished experiencing one of the infamous “load sharing” rolling blackouts. Apparently this will happen randomly for as much as 6-10 hours a day. Fortunately, my hotel has a generator.
I have no idea what this nicely dressed woman was doing walking across the scaffold planking.
The number of wires overhead staggers the imagination. Now tell me, how in the hell is this guy able to figure out which wire he’s supposed to be working on?
This woman could not have stood more than 36″ tall. She was sitting next to the road, and not overtly begging. I gave her some money and asked if I could take her picture. She was happy to accomodate.

Just completed the SF Century(12:30 PM) fighting a very strong SE headwind for 70 miles. Lost the BnS group after 50 miles. Finally caught some of them toward the end and even pulled most of the last ten miles. I guess I’m a late bloomer!
18.7 average over 105 miles which was 1/2 mph off my best time due to wind. Hope you can ride next year… unless we’re riding the Pyrenees!

Really enjoying your blog and photos. So, the next one of my children to join the travelling “wildberries” in Nepal, might be Sofie. We are looking at the possibility of her joining and working with Rachel at the orphanage for a month. What a culture jolt that would be for her. In the discussing/early planning phase.
